I have a Dell PC that has had linux on it for a while which i never used so decided to put XP back onto the machine. I will need the PC for something
that i don't think i can do on my Mac.
Popped the CD in and re formatted the HD and loaded a fresh windows on. I now can not get onto the net so i look in the Device manager and find big
yellow question marks next to some devices which are:
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
PCI Modem (not bothered about this as i never use it)
Video Controller
The video card has not got it's drivers installed as i can't find out what one it is but that can easily be done by opening the case.
The ones i need are the ethernet and audio.
With the Dell came a load of blue discs. What am i looking for to get everything working ?
My son's Dell laptop needs re formatting this week as we are going on our holls and he want's to take it with him and i'm hoping i
don't run into the same problems!
Any help would be most appreciated.
this used to be quite good http://www.windrivers.com/
save the ones you need on a usb thingy and copy over?
not sure what its like now, but if you can at least get the ethernet sorted you can get on the internet to sort the rest automatically.
Dells are like this with odd drivers, if you look on the case you will find a service tag. Go on the dell website and type this number in and it will give you the drivers that should be on that machine. then its pot luck of trying each one till it kicks in. i realise you need net access to do this but i presume you have this through your mac.
Yup. Just get the ethernet driver and the rest will follow once you're on the 'net....
It's a green for GO!
Thanks guys! I love you and want to bare your children!
I'm presuming you don't really want to remove the clothes from our children....
Not quite what i meant!!
