This will be a very easy question for you guys to answer and if I spent a bit of time, I could probably work it out myself but I'll pester you
chaps anyway....
I have a Sony Handycam (I wish I'd stuck with my Panasonics..) and I have a S-video lead. The lappy has a S-video socket. Is it possible to use
this lead to get the videos from the camera onto the lappy?? I've plugged the lead in and tried whispering to both machines but they didn't
talk to each other.
A hint of what to do would be splendid. I need to upload a marvellous clip entitled, "Paphos Badger watch. In the dark. In
Paphos"........
Cheers, Owelly.
Those sockets are usually video out?
What he said ^^^
owelly, i have a usb gadget box thing that I used to use to do exactly what your trying to do. It has the red/white/yellow rca plugs on it and an
s-video socket.
The only thing is the guy who gave it to me had to chop the leap, and then decided to use insulation tape to join it back together! It still works
fine but could do with the wires soldering up!
If you want it u2u me your address and ill pop it in the post tomorrow for you.
This is it - dazzle dvc 80
deffinitely video out you require an av convertor such as Pinnacle. Does your camcorder have any other outputs as s video suggests it an older model ???
Cheers folks.
The camera has two outy sockets. One is the DV out and the other the A/V out.
prawnabie, U have a U2U...any....minute......now......
is dv out for fire wire if so this is a lot quicker to convert files. I have a dazzle unit and it takes ages to recode the video as you have to play the full video then save then convert a bit of a ball ache
The DV out is for fire wire but I don't have such a thing on the lappy! The PC is poorly and since I got the lappy, the PC is just used for
piling things on top of....
prawnabie, the U2U doesn't seem to be playing. I'll try again in the morning.
Cheers folks.
I would look for a firewire card as I believe this is by far a faster method of downloading and capturing video just look on ebay around aŁ10.00

Get firewire for the laptop. Much better. Converting to s-video and back will remove quality....
You can get converter cables:
ebay
Cheers folks. I think I'll soon be sorted!!
This site rarely lets me down!
