OT - my new i7 pc & win7
mcerd1 - 6/8/09 at 07:14 PM

I've just finished building my new PC with a core i7 920, 6Gb RAM, a GTX285 and Win7 RC x64 for starters

I've logged on to this site and got winamp and my music setup - so the important bits all work

so now I'm looking to put it through its paces...
I've got a couple of directX 10 games but not much else, any suggestions ? (free stuff is best )

just tried this lappy and got approaching 600

it managed 17435

not to bad for a first go with all defualt settings, only 1 GPU and an RC version of windows (and its testing DX9 not 10)

Try 3dmark vantage, that's the vista/DX10 version.

change your memory timeings to 8.8.8.24 clocks and your cpu volts up to 1.25 and qpi/dram up to 1.30 dram bus up to 1.50 bclk up to 180 should be up to approx 4.0 gig on air as i run a i7 920 on a rampage2 extreme with 6 gig of ram and a gtx260 black 4g is easy good luck paul

that gives me: P13447

I'll keep playing with it but its already a huge step up from my old pc (the first version of the nforce 4 SLI chipset )

Christ, that takes me back.

I released the blue smoke from a fair few of those

it gets worse, I had a P4 630 (later swaped for a s/h 840 PentiumD EE, the best the MB could handle ) and a couple of Gb of cheap generic 533 ddr2's

the graphics were quite good at the time though - one 256Mb 6800 ultra (later 2 in an SLI)

I can't complian too much though, the old machine did 3 years of service before I noticed it was getting a bit slow for the new software - then struggled on for another year regardless and is still going now....
