Hello

Just got a new mobile phone with GPS and windows mobile but no maps.

Anyone know of a free site to collect these, I am loathed to spend a lot of money for a screen that's tiny for this kind of thing.

I downloaded windows live for my phone. its free but you download the map as you drive so you really need a browsing package. I think they may have renamed it to 'bing' now though.

What make/model of phone is it.

If its a windows mobile smartphone then there is an app where you can store google maps onto a memory card instead of having to recieve them as data. You select what area(s) you want it to store off on the pc then it stores them on your phone to use with the app. The url of the apps website is stored on my main pc so i'll post it up when I turn it on.

Alternatively there are free gps apps out there but they require a mobile data connection to get the maps realtime.

I've found the cheapest way to get internet access on the move is with Three payg - £5 gets you a month of broadband internet access (fair use)

You can download Tom Tom for Windows mobile from most bit torrent sites..... took me a while and a bit of googling to actualy figure out how to install it but for what it cost....... it was more than worth it! Bing is great - but not as a sat nav

Unfortunately for symbian users (i.e. nokia etc) tomtom have ceased support and it won't run on any of the latest phones. However i am trying McGuider http://www.mcguider.com/. This runs on all platforms and very similar to tomtom.
The only slight downside is it won't do navigate between different countries.

But with all european country maps supplied for 79 euro its a lot cheaper than tomtom.

probably available on a torent somewhere....

Realy? I've got Tom Tom 7 on my (admitedly older) windows mobile 6.1 phone and it works perfectly! - admitedly it was a complete b'stard to get working as it is a <cough cough> 'evaluation copy' but it was well worth the effort!

I 'obtained' a full copy and McGuider runs with no problems, Tomtom will no longer support symbian operating systems used by nokia and a few others.

The older cracked copies of tomtom will run on windows based platforms at the moment but cracking the updated mapping is proving hard.

I found that Garmin Mobile XT works great on my Nokia 5800, it's available on some torrents sites but needs a bit of work to get running.
