service life!
Dusty - 1/9/09 at 12:21 PM

Just tried to print a document on my ancient but seldom used Epsom C42 printer and the status monitor flashes up a message telling me parts of the printer are 'past their service life' and it refuses to play! Anything I can do apart from buy a new printer. I assume 'service' is just a joke and this is the same sort of scam that branded cartridges are.

Is there by any chance a secret reset button to press. Prints a test page and nozzle check fine so not faulty in any way.

can't you just take out the cartage and fit it back in? Sometimes that just resets it

There is one problem there. Epsom. They are bastards.

I think that the lesson here is never buy an epsom again

You may be able to uninstall the 'status monitor' type software and just install the bare bones driver for the device...

It really depends if what's stopping it working is in the software on your computer or the software (firmware) on the printer itself.

Just go out and buy a cheap HP printer/scanner from the super market

You might be able to get this tool to reset whatever is stopping it...

Linky

just googled and found it, found a link to it on another couple of forums to, so it should be OK....

Yeah, I heard just yesterday about a software tool to reset that pathetic Epsom service life thing.

It's probably the one Vinny's suggesting.

Cheers,
James

Sadly the linky tool lets you reset to 100% full cartridges which is a good thing. Now I only need to change them when the ink actually gets low. Doesn't let me reset the 'past service life' items. Have uninstalled the software printer monitor on the computer without effect so it must be in firmware in the printer itself. I have always bought epsom but never again!!!!!

DISREGARD ALL ABOVE. I HAVE RESET THE PRINTER FIRMWARE. IT'S WORKING AGAIN. JUST NEEDED TO SWITCH THE PRINTER OFF AND ON AGAIN AFTER THE RESET. YIPPEE. ALL IS GOOD. CRACKING BIT OFF SOFTWARE. THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU.
VINCE, I OWE YOU.
