I use Avast. not had a problem with it

AVG 8.5 - pretty robust so far......

I switched from AVG to Avast, as AVG slowed up my PC quite a lot.

I started with AVG - it is good, but I got fed up with continual updates and downloads. They also keep pushing their paid-for product, which is is understandable but annoying.

I'm now on Avast, which still has the downloads, but in the background while the machine is on-line. You get a brief notification when it's finished.

Both do their job, so it's a matter of personal preference.

Thanks for that fellas, looks like Avast then.

Avira Free AV --- long proven track record and a much more professional look and feel interface.

Avast, without a doubt.

AVG a disaster, slowed computer down.

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Microsoft yet:

http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Been running it here for months on several PCs since the first beta and it's great. Very light weight. Gets decent reviews. I hated Avast because of the need to register. AVG lost me at v8, what a disaster.

I found AVG missed on virus on my old PC. Check your banks, if you have on line banking many are giving away free anti virus s/w.

Barclays give away Kaspersky for example.
