just checked my interweb speed as it seems to have slowed to a crawl, figures are 0.24 upload and 0.96 download, are these as bad as i think they are and what can i do about it,it,s bt via a router
Depends, if you're paying for one meg that look about right, if you're paying for eight then get shouting at BT.
I had problems with AOL getting similar speeds to you, rang them and got the run around saying it wasnt there problem it was BTs, rang BT they say you
need to speak to your ISP. If you can get past the numpys to the tech guys you will get on better. First thing he got me to change was the ISDN filter
which can aparently be tempremental, then unplug SKY. Not sure if they did anything there end but now have speeds of 5.5mbps "much
better".
Hope you have some luck with your ISP.
Yep had the exact same runaround with O2... Shame really cos they were the only good customer service we recieved...
checked the "filter" it has "dsl" written on it but i have 2 spare "adsl" filters in the cupboard,i assume from when i had a modem, can i use that or will it end in tears and a ball of fire?
Sorry meant ADSL not ISDN (altziemers). ADSL filters are the ones I use with my AOL Netgear router. My outlaws BT Homehub also uses them, think there
used a standard. Hope it dosnt end in a fire!!
Kev
no flames yet, speed readout is a bit lower but it seems to be loading pages a bit faster
ill give them a bell morra, cheers for your advice.
If you have rebooted your router (not out the window) it can take up to 3 days for the speed throughput to be measured and set from your exchange.
Best to leave it on all the time to avoid having to wait again.
Kev
If youve got cable in your area switch to that, you wont regret it.
Cheers,
Bob
Before doing anything else try this.
Switch off the router and disconnect from the phone line for at least 20 minutes, then reconnect this will force a new session to be created.
