So I came home last night, pushed the button on the front of my PC and nothing.
I've checked the fuse, and checked there's actually power coming to the PC power supply, all ok.
So what's the order I should be checking things inside the box. Presumeably it's looking like a power supply problem. The PC is home built
using good parts, the powers supply itself is a Tagan one.

check for power socket
Does the fan wind up? Motherboard beep? Any lights, smells or other noises?
my tagan power supply stopped working last month
spent hours testing it and came to the conclusion that it was scrap.
They do go sometimes. I had a decent corsair psu that just stopped working Sent it back and got a replacement pretty quickly though.
i have the same problem with the mrs
(,she didnt like me in the uniform) .

No, absolutely nothing at all....
Ahhh - I think I've found the problem, the small cable that goes to the front panel switch is not plugged in to anything, it's a tiny flat
two pin connector with Power SW written on it, but I'm bugger if I can see where it plugs back in to. Presumeably it's on the
motherboard?

worrying that a wire has just fallen off from the inside of your pc, I would be ouutside now checking the bolts on my suspension to make sure i tightened them up correctly LOL
OK, so I've plugged the little power switch lead back in to the motherboard, and still nothing, how do I go about checking the power supply? I
don't have a spare one I can swap over.
Should there be some voltage at the pin outs on the motherboard for the power switch? I've got a volt meter here.
I've put a volt meter (on 10v DC) on the main thick bank of leads going to the motherboard from the power supply, nothing.

Thanks, did that, still nothing from the PSU at all, so presumably it's junk then, and get a new one....
Just checked with Scan, Tagan power supplies are warranted for 3 years, so I'll get a new one from them.
Thanks chaps - as usual

Just pray it didn't take anything else with it when it died

You post here made it so I would guess that the PC is working fine....... Check the monitor connection or switch it must still be off so you cannot see what you are typing because we can see it.
I'm on my work PC, it's my home one that's buggered.... hope the MB is ok

Oh yes, forgot about that Pulled into the garage just before Brands to fill up - had driven there from Brighton, and found ALL my wheel nuts loose
where I'd had the wheels off to check the pads the day before
Anyway - check this out. My Tagan PSU comes with a 3 yr warranty. Guess when I ordered it from Scan? 30/10/2006, yeah - really .... BUT the warranty
is taken from the day it arrived and I signed for it, 3/11/2006, so it's still in warranty, JUST!!! Have to say the guys at Scan have been really
good about it.
Sale of goods act, how long should it last?
Tbh warranty doesn't mean squat with that law around
