unlocking mobile phone
locoboy - 31/10/09 at 10:14 AM

Guys,

I found a nokia 6610 in a car we were breaking and it has obviously been reported lost to the provider and it has been locked out.

Can this be unlocked?

I know that this is done to prevent phone thefts but this is not a 'stolen' phone.

Any help appreciated as i need a new phone and this is sitting on my dest staring at me!

advice by U2U if you dont want to air this in the open forum.
thanks

Nothing you can do I'm afraid*. If the IMEI is on the stolen/lost phone blacklist then it's impossible to get it off again.

* Even Nokia's own internal reflashing equipment can't change the IMEI number.

Also i believe it is illegal to change the IMEI number on a phone

Depends. As said if the IMEI has been blocked you're stuffed. If the SIM has just been de-registered due to lack of use you could try sticking a known good SIM in from the same provider to see if that works.

if the imei has been locked sell it to someone out of the UK, will work fine.

have you tried your sim in it?

locoboy - 31/10/09 at 11:18 AM

Tidy!

Tried it about 4 months ago when we first found it and it wouldn't work.

Just put my sim in and it fired straight up!

Maybe it is only locked for so long?

or maybe now they will be able to track you down

+1
If it says something like "Contact Service Provider" then it's been registered lost/stolen so it won't work in this country. Maybe in your case it was the sim that had gone off
