just rang the the windows activation hot line using a legit serial code off the holographic sticker on the bottom of the laptop after re-installing
windows to be met with an, 'Incorrect product key' message.
its an automative service so there is no one to talk to,
what do i do now?
Do it online ? Have you installed the same OS as was previously used or are you trying a Windows 98 or 2000 code with XP ? I've done 5 from the same windows disk and used the code from the base unit and none have been rejected.
dont have the internet on the laptop in question, it wont even let me log into a profile
you will use the touch tone phone and put the numbers in that come up on the screen, it will then give you a code to put in or pass you through to an indian call center..... but a good one
Is it the right version - i.e. Pro vs Home?
Did you use an OEM install disk, a retail upgrade or a retail full version? Each of these allows different keys...
Oh...one more variation...SP1 key vs original..
If the 30 days has timed out I can't help, if it hasn't there are bits of software to save you troubling Mr Gates with such trivial things, I can send if you U2U, with an email address of course.
Pretty sure the number I had to type in to the phone for activation was about 50 digits long and not related to the one off my XP sticker, the
activation screen shows the number to type in after selecting the phone option and following through (maybe).
