Seem to remember it means a new motherboard etc. So basically no. But it's worth finding out about Microsoft out of warranty replacements.

You can get a replacment up to 3years my lads just done his 2 years 10months. Even though the man date was Oct.

Hi Kevin,

If you log onto the Xbox website they will repair certain out of warranty faults. I believe they have a list and it is determined by the combination of lights lit on the front panel.
One of my lads recently had his fixed out of warranty. They even collect it and deliver it back.

I've repaired a couple of the Early White Xbox 360's.

Have a look on Ebay for the kits there only about £4, make sure you get one that has spring washers, metal washers (not Nylon) and Thermal transfer paste.. and most importantly instructions or a good set from online somewhere.

If you do fix it yourself make sure on the first tightening of the new bolts on the heatsink you don't tighten them too tight.

If its out of warrenty and the repair kits less than a Fiver and 1/2 hr of your time, what is there to loose really compared to £150+ for a new console.

While the case is open you can clean out all the fluff etc that was blocking the heatsink that caused the problem in the first place

I had it on mine whilst it was out of warranty and they fixed it fre. You have to look on the xbox site as stated and pee around for a bit but they sent out a box and then offered to collect it and returned in a short time with a free live membership for a month.
Now that's good customer service that some could take a lead off.

3 years now for RROD or E64 or somet errors

You can fix them like explained above for a few £ if MS won't.

mines quite old now but has never had any probs, should I open it up and clean it inside now or is this just something that happens to xbox 360's? or does it need just a soft paintbrush and the dyson?

My original 360 that's already been replaced once (1 month outside its suppliers 12 months warranty) has just gone AGAIN with the RROD.

It's over 3 years now (microsofts extended guarantee period for RROD and error E74) from when it was originally purchased/manufactured but when it was returned they gave me a whole new 360 (not just an internals swap) which meant a new manufacture date/serial no. on the back of it.

I thought I'd try my luck and see if it could be fixed free again and luckily enough they will do it again for nothing - however he did make a point of mentioning it will only have a 3 months warranty.

It was a revised motherboard too with the better cooling. It would be a pleasure to actually see one of the 360's I own get to a decent age without going wrong! I've got about 7 of the original xbox1's running as fine as the day they were purchased!

One of the computer mags ran an article in the last couple of weeks where they re-housed the xbox 360 internals in a third party enclosure for much improved cooling.
