Trying to get a new broadband supplier as my current connection is supplied by my company and they are now going to supply 3G cards for laptops. So,
the home connection is being cut of as from 1st Jan
Tried to speak with sky as have phone and tv with them and they need a MAC code from previous supplier. Problem is they say without it it may take up
to 28 days to supply. My question is, as from the 1st of jan I have no broadband so why do I need to supply them a migration code? Second question, I
need a simply, cheap broadband as dont do massive downloads, can anyone suggest a good company as sky tell me one min I can get one pack then next I
have to take another, they dont seem to get there facts right each time.
Any one recommend a good supplier and do I need this MAC code thing.??
Thanks in advance and hope Im not off line for too long sorting it out......
For a seamless transition you will need the MAC code. They are legally obliged to supply this to you within 5 working days - however I would point out
it took me over a month to get one from Pipex!
Regarding suppliers I would Google (while you still can!) for the latest deals as they change every 5 minutes. I have been very pleased with Virgin
who I use, but I'm sure they're not the cheapest - cheapest is of course frequently not best!
What Sky package are you going for?
I was with Sky on the Connect package (£17pm) and I found that I never got anywhere near the 8Mb I was paying for.
From 5pm each day and all weekend my bandwidth was throttled (due to competition for the line) to about 0.5Mb which made using the net almost
impossible.
Other packages and locations might be different but do a search and see what other people in your area say about Sky throttling the service.
After getting totally feed-up I went for a Vigin Media service as I am in a cabled area. I went for the 20Mb package and get a lightning fast
connection.
The plus point (as its cable) is that I didn't need a MAC code to transfer
There could be problems ahead...
Talk Talk were a nightmare to leave for me. They supplied numerous MAC codes which all failed to work. Eventually I said $od it - just terminate my
broadband. This they did and I signed up for UKonline - I used 1p per minute till my broadband was up and running - a few days - and not one problem
since and much better speed than Talk Talk.
Not sure how competetive UKonline are but they sorted me out where as Talk Talk were messing me around.
Good luck.
Go here http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and type in your Tel No with STD code then click the highlighted exchange it will tell you
who's equipment is in your local exchange.
If Sky have equipment there your laughing you can get thier cheap deal if not Sky will be using BT wholesale BB and you will pay full whack and get
cr@p speeds.
If anyone else has equipment o2 for example they will give you a better deal.
As said earlier if you are in a Virgin cabled area personally I'd go for that there is no comparison.
Cheers,
Bob

It's a can of worms I tell you, we've swapped over to talk talk, cut our bill by £14 a month and more than doubled speed and download capacity with not a single problem in the last 3 months.

Had Sky, was pants.
Had o2, was pants.
Got virgin, pretty good and last time we phoned them we had to point out how much money we got going their way (tv, net, mobile, landline) and they
got it sorted
If it's temporary get one of them 3g things... but they should be able to get it set up within a week.
Also never heard of a mac code so I imagine it's not really needed...
