I am trying to conect to a Dta e48exp to a lap top running vista home ed.
I am using a usb to serial adapter. I have used this adapter on Mjl x2 a wide band and a couple of other ecu's.
Problem the Maping program knows the ecu is conected and switched on but when you try to conect it just says that the com port is in use.
What am I doing wrong.
The device is set to com 4 and so is the ecu in the maping software. I have tryed moving the ports about in the software and device manager but then
it wont even see the ecu in the software also tryed installing on another port.
please help
Most software I have used requires com port 1 to be the default port this includes GEMS, megasquirt etc as the serial port is always com port 1 on older machines
tried that
any more ideas welome please
I had to run an emulator on my Vista machine I used VMware to enable me to use XP on the Vista machine, I then altered the setting to recognise the cable
When connecting my megajolt the USB serial adaptor finds a different com port every time and mega can only use upto com 10 so i go into hardwhere and delete com stuff on com ports until one is free then re attach adaptor, go into tuning options and select the com port the adaptor is on.
You need to check in device manager which com port the USB doofer has assigned. You can also change it in device manager
I think there are a least two different chip sets for usb to serial.
One is better than the other for such aplications.
Maybe try a different converter?
