I've had couple of dells and they've been great. They have some good deals on sometimes. Get one for under 500 easy
You're going to get loads of different opinions here but I like Lenovo/IBM laptops - well made and seem pretty reliable to me. I have 2 which are
over 5 years old and still going strong with only 1 hard drive failure last year (which could happen to any Laptop)
Cheers

I've got a few Dell PC's for my company and they are always good.
Have a look at EuroPC (www.europc.co.uk). They are a Dell outlet for cancelled orders etc.
They are always cheap and you get the normal Dell quality and warranty.
Got my last one there and I was very impressed.
ASUS (rather than ACER) I've had mine for 8 years now and its still going strong
I know a few people with newer ones and there just as good
the K50** series ones should be in the right ballpark
looks like misco have quite a few in at the moment :

A vote for a netbook here - just got the compaq one from amazon, runs xp so nic and reliable (better than vista in my opinion) - easily runs office. Plus has a camera and microphone built so ideal for skype.

Reconditioned macbook
Yeah ive just bought a macbook pro and have no quarms dumping my pc for it
I & my family have had 5 Acers, all from either laptopsdirect or ebuyer, all excellent & any minor probs have been fixed under their warranty even including a broken keyboard (broken by my daughters carelessness!) all FOC & their spec & value for money takes some beating.
Thanks too you all.
Well start looking now.
