Hi. It seems to be my day for asking off topic questions.....
My existing anti virus runs out this month. As it seems to slow up my PC, does stuff I don't want it to without asking and costs me a lot I want
to change. I have Norton at the mo.
What do you fine people recommend?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
AVG Free is pretty much the best freebe one ive come accross. there are a few out there though. Avoid Norton and McAfee
I use Panda and find it very good, it is quite cheap and gives you a license for 3 pc's
+1 for AVG!
I find Kaspersky pretty good.
I'm told Eset Nod32 is effective and not resource hungry.

Im a Network security consultant for a company in leeds so sell all types of AV.
kaspersky is good but uses alot of processor power if your pc is old.
Sophos is very good.
Eset is cheap and good.
AVG is free and you get what you pay for.
Norton is ok and easy to use.
my suggestion is try kaspersky on a trail if you pc is new. if not try eset nod32.
good luck.
if you need any more advise let me know.

I've used several of the ones mentioned in the past and now have Microsoft Security Essentials, which is free.
Seems to work really well, and doesn't slow things down at all.
AVG is a bit rubbish as it regularly fails to update definitions and takes a lot of system resource.

I used to use AVG, but it got too big and bulky so binned it for Avast (also free) and haven't looked back since.
Avast is great. What can be better than software named after a pirate phrase?
I use Eset NOD32. Like someone has already posted it is not resource hungry so runs well on my old PC.
After trying loads I ended up with Avast. It always updates and has never given any trouble.
AVG I found, slowed my computer.
I used AVG then Avast Now I’m using Microsoft Essentials (Free if you a genuine copy of windows)
OS X
Another vote for eset. It just works.
I have a print shop & it often finds viruses on peoples memory sticks which have been checked with other software, especially Norton & AVG
free. Doesn't slow PC either.

anyone got a link to the avast download ?
I've got AVG free on a couple of mine and its been ok
if your paying for it, then I'd recommend Trend - also gives you 3 pc for the same money as the rest
http://uk.trendmicro.com/uk/home/
but avoid Norton, McAafee and Kaspersky they are slow and very invasive - it can be harder to get Norton off your system than the viruses its supposed
to save you from

I was having problems with the speed of my broadband and after a lot of phone calls I got to speak to a man who was in the exchange twiddling with my
wires....
He asked what antivirus I had and at the time I was running Norton (Came with the PC). He told me to remove it and use something else. I asked what
else? His response was "Anything"
So, I now have Avast, it updates all the time and catches all sort of little stuff. Recommended.

I used AVG free and Malwarebytes for a long time, but then I had a problem with a trojan infestation that they just couldn't sort out. I got
hold of NOD32 from Eset, and it fixed everything immediately, so AVG has now gone and I only use NOD32 - it just works!

+1 for avast. Malwarebytes anti malware is also good. Avg let a virus through not so long ago. The computer guy i go to sorted it and recomended avast. See his website: www.anotherbig.com
I seem to be the odd one out and use Avira. No problems really..
However you will have to reinstall windows to get rid of Norton (seriously I did when I upgraded from 98 to XP)
Another one who used to use AVG Free and now uses Avast. I was fine with AVG but they changed it and I think it stopped checking files on download, only when they were opened.
