Trouble with 5.1 surround sound setup
Jasper - 13/9/10 at 05:05 PM

So Ive got a set of 5.1 speakers for my PC to watch films in bed. Ive wired them up correctly, easy as it's all colour coded. Ive got the right wires going into the sound card and into the base unit and the right speakers plugged in the right holes.

Ive checked the fader on the control unit and it's in the middle, so that's fine.

In Control Panel / Sounds I've selected Speakers, the top default device which is Creative SB X-fi. I've right clicked it and selected Configure, selected 5.1 in the speaker set-up, tested the speakers and I get correct sound out of all the front speakers and the sub, but the rear speakers also play out of the front, not out of the back.

Ive double checked all the plugs are in the right place, and they are, so I'm a bit stuck really.

Thoughts gentlemen??

Sorted it, it was another setting for 5.1 in the Creative programme....

there are a few options in the creative software - its worth taking the time to play with them (the auto upmixing is good for sterio stuff like music and iplayer)

I'er gone for an asus xonar this time round and I really miss some of those options

Yeah thanks, got that sorted too now

if you want it to be a bit simpler (and you don't want all there recording and playback software) then uninstall the software and download the driver on its own from creatives site (there should be a driver only option)

that way you get most of the same options, but they are all in the normal control pannel bit instead of the extra software
