Just had a chat request from a friend of mine on FB it had a click link which I followed. link didn't go anywhere. I called said friend who said he hadn't logged on to FB today

I am pretty sure its an attack on my machine. Anyone heard of this MO before?

I can't run adaware since this happened, it just spits out an error message

Any ideas

What is FB? Sorry, it's probably obvious but I can't think what it could be.

Facebook is running very slow today and not really working properly so maybe its just a coincidence.

When u clicked the link did you sign in?
If so you may have sent you log in details to an outside source.
Log in to facebook via typing in facebook.com, and then change you password. FAST

Were you logged into facebook at the time. Could be a cross-scripting dodah.... Make sure you run the usual suspects (Adaware, Malwarebytes etc etc) in safe mode.
