following on from the previous thread, I'm just looking for some opinions on building a new machine from the following bits:
to run 32bit XP pro.....
MB: ASUS P7P55 LX S/L
CPU: core i5 750
Memory: KINGSTON 1GB DDR3 DIMM 1333MHz
PSU: THERMALTAKE 650W (this one or
similar)
GPU: ASUS 1GB GTS 250 DARK
KNIGHT
HDD: 500Gb SATA2 (or similar)
(the budget can't stretch to much mor than that for now)
what do you think ? / anything I've got totaly wrong ?

Ewww 1GB cheapo ram - that wont do you any favours. Assuming the use you suggested in your previous thread you'll want as much as possible.
You're spending a lot on an OTT PSU too. Your bits above come to £460 - for the same price I put this together from my usual outlet...
Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail £158.99
OcUK GeForce GTS 450 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £99.99
Patriot Viper 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVS34G1600LLK) £70.49
Asus P7H55-M Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard £65.99
Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply (CMPSU-400CXUK) £32.99
Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD502HJ) £32.99
Sub Total : £461.45
Faster CPU, 4GB quality ram, better GPU.
As said you want more than 1gb ram to cope with that hdd size..
please dont use xp pro 32bit.
pleeeeeease.
ps as above 1gb ram is a little low.
the asus board will need a little updating but there ok i guess.

Hell yell put in 4GB always run with as much memory as Windows will support. It is greedy so give it as much memory as it supports.
