Editing CCTV footage?
lsdweb - 3/10/10 at 09:38 AM

Hi All

I need to edit some CCTV footage to extract a few minutes from a 3 hour video with multiple cameras. The file format is .vdm. I can view the footage with the supplied viewer but this doesn't let me extract bits, only JPEG images. I could try recapturing the video whilst playing it on screen using something like Hypercam but that's not the best option!

Sadly, I can't go back to the supplier of the video to ask for a shorter version.

Grateful for any help!

Regards

Wyn

Thats the whole point of protected images, it prevents people altering the original data.

You will need to go back to the unit and burn the required time to media.

Extracted jpegs are for reference only i.e. creating mugshots not for use as evidence.

.vdm extension videoswitch units, provided the data has not been overwritten it's a quick 2 min job.

If you are using it as evidence, then the entire video is useful, simply note down the time(s) on the tape that events occur and hand the cd and notes to whoever needs to see it...

Thanks guys. I used the full CCTV footage for the Police but extracted AVI files to share with my Union rep - it's a long story!
