For some time the Vista PC has been freezing two or three times a week- the cursor doesn't move and keyboard doesn't respond. Now it's
got worse - the screen goes blank, can be light blue or dark blue, white or even green. No on-screen messages. This is now happening several times a
day. Only way to restart is switch off at wall socket.
On restart, I have lost passwords etc to
websites.
Any ideas, or is it FUBAR ?
I did wonder if it was the on-board video chip - would it be worth trying an AGP plug-in video board ?
Sounds like it could be your graphics card, or maybe even a virus. Rather than turn off at the wall, hold the power button for 5 seconds, this should
force shut down the CPU.
Do you have anti-virus software?
Yes, that's another way I can shut down. Same result - lose auto-complete passwords etc. I have McAfee through BT ISP Netprotect plus - never shown any intrusion.
sounds like a software bug more likely but there is many reasons for that.
i would suggets backing up all your work and stuff u need and re installing vista.
if that doesnt solve the problem then hardward maybe the next thing to try.
its unlikely to be the motherboard.
more likley to be RAM or graphics.
i woudl run mem test which you get download from microsoft site.
and see if it fails.
good look with them steps.

Watching this thread with interest.
Having the same trouble with XP.
Cursor disappears, and switch off at the tower and start again is the only option.
