What do you need? Fast? Cheap? Unlimited?

For cheap, go for the named brands - but it'll probably be slow. For unlimited, you have to pay more.

My suggestion would be this lot, but I've not used them yet personally. I am about to though...! Damned Pipex...

Depends why it was crap. If it was because you're miles from the exchange then it's likely to be crap no matter who you go with if sticking with ADSL.

Let's face it if you're going to use it a fair bit the only other option is cable.

A neighbour who lived around the back of my house on an unadopted (and therefore uncabled) road looked into getting Virgin (/NTL) to extend it the few metres to reach him.

I don't think it was mega money.

Could be worth a phone call as on the whole their speeds are pretty good. Its what I have used for the last 5 or 6 years as I can only get a measly 1mbit as I'm too far from the exchange.

Also if it literally is next door it shouldn't be that hard for them to sort it out - may even be covered under a normal installation fee - if you don't ask you'll never know.

I'm confused as to why it would stop short of your house - its not as if you're in the middle of nowhere?

based purely on the quality of their latest TV adverts I would go with GOOD HONEST BROADBAND FROM YORKSHIRE
