trying to transfer all my stuff to a new compo.
i have outlook as my e mail provider?.
seems i cant install outlook unless i buy a disc?
i tried to use thunderbird but all i get is incorrect password or user name,strange as i have never used thunderbird before.
i want to keep my old e mail addy....so,in simple terms...what to do
Do you have a gmail account?
You can configure that to recieve IMAP or pop emails for several addresses
outlook is your client.
what is you email address ???
eg @hotmail
@gmail
@too-many-to-list.com
I dont think outlook can be an email provider? (unless you have a mail server) I thought it was just a email handler that merely links with an email provider or email server.
Here you go John ...... step by step how to configure Thunderbird....
Please change the btinternet bit in the example to your own provider......
u2u me if you want clarification

Thunderbird. the easy way using Mozbackup.
(1) Download Thunderbird
(2) Download Mozbackup.
(3) Install thunderbird on old PC. On first run it will import the email, account & server settings and passwords from Outlook.
(4) Install Mozbackup on the old PC and backup your Thunderbird installation, save it to your desktop and use a file name you will recognise such as
emailbackup.pcv .
(5) Put both programs and the backup file you have created on a CD or memory stick for transfer to new PC.
(6) On the new PC install both Thunderbird and Mozbackup.
(7) Run Mozbackup and restore from the .pcv file you created.
(8) Run Thunderbird and check everything has been imported.

I agree with the above in that the easiest way is to install Thunderbird on the old PC and import/transfer from Outlook, then transfer the Thunderbird (known as Zargo amongst my work colleagues - geddit? ) to the new PC.
if old comp still works you can just open outlook and goto
tools > accounts > export
save the file to a usb stick and copy to new computer = job done
you should have outlook express as a minimum on any windows machine if not u can download it from Microsoft website
