Hi All,

My Epson PSC has chewed up a sheet of paper (now removed) and now prints a ghost/blurred image.
When this happened it made a GRRRR noise so I think it's stripped the teeth off one of the rollers.

So I'm thinking of buying a new PSC as printers seem to be throw away items.

The price of ink seems to be a major consideration so I'm looking at these two. (From Argos)

Which one would you buy, or is there something better in this price range? (Not Epson)

For highest reliability I'd recommend HP printers but the toners can be expensive, even if you buy mail order.

For economy I'd personally take a good look at those Kodak printers - they make a big issue of their cheap toner cartridges. A bit of research (i.e. Googling the make and model) on the interwebbie will usually bring out the pros and cons for any popular printer.

UPDATE: just did a google on the Kodak - it's got a suspect reputation, and the reviewer said that the HP is actually one of the cheapest to run out of 4 common makes quoted!

my advise is look at the cost of cartridges.

i have a epson printer dx44500 which is a good printer and the ink i get for 99p each (uses 4) from bigpockets website. and it will do around 100 prints per cart.

i would suggest work out how many prints the carts will do and how much it will cost to replace them.

thats always my deciding factor.

anyway thats my advise.

epson cartridges are good for compatable ones and very cheap.

I have a Brother Printer with wireless connection, would highly recommend the wireless connectivity makes it available to anyone in the house.

I use www.printerinks.com for compatibles

I've just bought the Kodak on the basis of the cost of ink which was prohibitive on my old Lexmark.

Before buying I had a look at the Reevoo web site and I noticed it also got a best buy from the Gadget Show although I've no idea on what basis.

So far it's been very good although it does sound a bit "clonky".

Ive got a HP Colour Laserjet, and its the best printer ive ever had. Got it from our old office when it closed down, along with a spare set of toner cassettes.

IJTdirect do offers on printers sometimes, see if they have anything suitable.

I'm attracted to the Kodak by the price of the cartridges. I use around 6 sets a year.

I had an HP before the Epson. Threw it out because of the ink costs. I never got true colours when using compatibles.

Bought the Epson 14 months ago and use Jettec inks in it. They seem very good but its now broke so no more Epson.


To be honest I'd rather buy a printer from a local source, hence I looked at Argos.

Our familly has had a lot of success with buying recon printers from canon via email.

Canon make cracking printers, you get a full canon type warenty for a limited period (which i used on one of them without hickup) and they are very cost effective compaired to the same printer new.

We've got four ip4000's and a MFP for my sister.

Canon out of those two. Lots of features for the money.
Tesco were doing the MP540 a week or so ago for £50 so I had to have one. And I'm biased.
Yes you'll pay a bit more for the ink, but getting a true like for like cost per print is difficult if not impossible

HP make the only 100% reliable inkjets they just keep working for years and years until they wear out.

Brother & HP & Cannon Lasers are very good.

Epson make great DOT matrix

Thanks for all the help on this.

Bought the Canon in the end.

Fingers crossed that I have made the right decision. Time will tell.
