I don't want to upset the proverbial Applecart or Godforbid get banned from
the site, but this subject has raised a lot of comments in a very short time.
So, quite simply, do we want a link to Facebook or not ?
[Edited on 6/11/10 by NigeEss]
Personally, I want absolutely nothing to do with 'facebook, twitter, my space' or any other 'social networking'site.
My vote is definetly a NO !
No worries...I had already indicated to The Boss that a poll was needed.
I was going to wait until after the weekend before doing it......but no worries,
if you get banned.....then so will I!
I am on the 'No to FaceBook on LB' side......
We have a LB group on FaceBook, I don't feel we need it on here, but then
I don't want to appear 'stuffy'.
I am antisocial and i do not want people to spy on me or my life.
Hear here!!! Or words to that effect. It's nice to be around like minded people.
I am unfussed tbh, I'm a member on FB, but it aint the be all and end all! It can however be a useful communication tool, and a terrible waster of time!
Its a "no" from me too.
[Edited on 6/11/10 by aka Keith]
Well it doesnt make any difference if the wadget is there or not.
users can play wadgets, and those who dont do wadgets avoid it.
Personally I quite like facebook, but it has to be moderated by the user. Otherwise you end up with a friend list of 600 before you know it.
With all my settings set high, and only 12 people I trust on my list, it works fine for me. I even put a ban of the ex Mrs so I dont even see her ugly
mush everytime I login -
[Edited on 6/11/10 by T66]
Loose it please!!
I voted 'No' and then pressed the 'Like' button to see what would happen
It doesn't bother me however I'd be happy to pay subscriptions every 12 months........
I voted yes i do not go on much but i can keep in touch with long distance rellatives
Everybody has a choice to use facebook or not
I say it should stay, if you are not on facebook then there is nothing to worry you
IMHO, no place for it here.
I can't see the appeal of it one bit. Spent an hour looking through it a while back and that is all I ever want to do. People tend to write crap
for the sake of it, just so their seen as updating it. If I want to send someone a message I use email. I am not bothered one bit if someone has 573
friends.
Infact, what does that link at the bottom actually do?

Its a big NO from me
Sorry, but no thanks
Get it off. Those that want Facebook, then use Facebook.
my only concern would be if my work network (MoD) restricted access to this site as a result of it being on there, it has'nt so far though and they normally quite quick
I'm a member of facebook and I would actually find the link quite handy. I have a lot of friends who are into their cars as much as I am in to
mine. I often provide them links, posting the link on their facebook wall/profile so they can see them. The idea is that posting a link on their wall
allows my friends, friends to see the link as well and if they like the article then they can read it too - Rather than sending them it in an email so
only they can see it.
For those that are unsure what the button on this website actually does, If you have a facebook account and click 'like' on one of the
threads it would automatically post a link on your profile, which your friends could then see and read if they are interested.
If you don't click 'like' then it will do nothing. people from facebook won't start 'graffiti-ing' the forum etc.
Any changes made to this site to bring it more into the current world will never be welcomed, just like when youtube's interface was updated -
nobody liked it, but everyone has forgotten about the changes now and just get on with using the site.
Talking of youtube when are we going to get integrated youtube videos in posts?
Just my 2 pence and giving a say for the darkside!
Its a no from me. If there are enough "NO" votes does it mean facebook will be removed from the internet? What a waste of space it is. All ive seen it used for is for relatives to moan about their miserable lives and slag each other off. Who needs 200+ friends? It will only cost you more at weddings, birthdays ect. And to the people who know me yes I admit Im a tight arse!: Just my opinion
No Vote
Problem I have with the Link is that at work the "IT Police" block Facebook / twitter etc and change the page to a "ATTENTION YOUR
ACTIVITES HAVE BEEN LOGGED" so that means now that every time I open a Locost thread I get multiple hits against the FIREWALL. Which means
that "Locostbuilder" will now start appearing on a List of "supsect" sites and then IT will ban it. the ********.
I would be quite happy with an option to Turn on or Off the link in the profile.
No, Ta
just because some people dont want it affecting their ability to log on to LB at work is no reason to loose the FB button. Your at work to work not look at LB so why should it really bother you. If you dont like the button, dont use it. I dont like adverts, but they have to be there, I dont like lots of things but they dont go away just because I personally dont like them.

The right to privacy seems to have gone. The right to opt in if you want something rather than being opted in and being told you have the right to
opt out if you don't want it. Like being told all locosters have been signed up to tits and bums weekly and a dozen other porn sites and you have
the right to opt out. Thanks but no thanks.
If someone wants to join face book and post links for their friends then sure, why not. But why does my world have to be altered for their benefit.
Let them do the work. The puerile/assinine legend, 'Be the first to like this' make me want to gouge my eyes out. To see that 'Five
people like this' just makes me want to scream till I die.
I voted no, but feel it could just be a simple on/off option in the userCP
Not for me...
I said no... but i'd be happy for it to be an option in the control panel.
i voted yes just to wee the people off that voted no lol.
joke
theres a lot of cool car builds on facebook that you dont see on forums, and you meet all kinds of people. its all good fun you only have to put as
much info on there as you like so its not as if people no when your taking a poo or where you live.

But we do have breaks when it is acceptable to access non-banned (as yet) sites.
My employer opened up to facebook and you tube ect as well as twitter but then you who your working for a net company.....

+1
lots of employers are restricting work internet access now, if people didnt have access to LB at break times ect this forum would be a lot quieter 8-5 and loose the benefits of some quick responces to posted problems.
also think most No's are from people that dont have, or any knowledge of facebook (like me) but this alone is no reason to block it in my opinon
No.......
Facebook in itself isn't evil, it all depends on how you want to use it.
I have 50-60 "friends" on facebook, the vast majority are real friends who I keep up with, bits of news etc.
Facebook only does what you want it to, if you don't click on a link etc. it doesn't do anything....
(speaking as a facebook sceptic until I needed to join 6 months ago to get in touch with a mate who's details I'd lost.)
No from me with just about the same ratio as the EU poll
Vote UKIP!
Sorry - I don't like FB either. I have an account and rarely check it.
In fact I hate the way FB communication works. The written word can never be read as the spoken word. I see FB "discussions/chats" often
turn a bit off and poeple get arsey as they reply to messages. Was just reading one on one of my family members yesterday - a discussion turned into
"Who's got a bigger ego" type thing.
So - my vote is no thanks. Log into FB if you like but don't see why we need the link here.

I wish facebook would just faceoff!!
Why do we need it?
We have a life.
Although having said that, if it helps to promote Chris' business, then fair do.
[Edited on 6/11/10 by Confused but excited.]
Absolutely, definately no. Please remove it. It has already stopped me being able to access this site at work.
And as for those who say I'm at work to work and shouldn't be accessing the LB site during work hours I would strongly disagree. I work six
days a week, most weekends and pretty much all Bank Holidays. Furthermore I work split shifts, often working 14+ hours a day, particularly at this
time of the year. If I sit down for 10 minutes in the morning with a coffee, or for an hour in the afternoon for a break, why shouldn't I be able
to access this site and relax for a short while?
Incidentally, I also use Facebook, albeit infrequently. If I want to go on FB then I'll log onto the site directly.
Just me 2'd worth.
Mart.
Whilst i do go on FB but not everyday and i dont consider myself a "facebooker",
i am a little confuse at what clicking the "like" button on here means, what am i liking?.
Is it that i like facebook?
Is it i like Locostbuilders?
Is it i like a certain thread on locostbuilders?
Is it i like a certain post on a thread on Locostbuilders?
Please enlighten me.
Sorry boys and girls. Did I ever claim this was a democracy?
I stand by my comments in this post: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/18/viewthread.php?tid=145625
I'll make a decision early next week as to whether to keep it, ditch it, move it, or something else.
Those that worry about it affecting their ability to browse at work, don't worry. It's loaded in an iframe, essentially a browser window
within a browser window. If your work's firewall blocks facebook all it will do is stop the button from loading, not the rest of the page.
Chris

Very strange you say it does not affect Locostbuilders at work
As since 0930-1700 today, while at work today, i was unable to access locostbulders for the very first time
The message, was "The website has been disabled by the ************** team"
******, being my employer
So in other words, now while at work, i am unable to while away my lunchbreak on this site
Progress ?
Regards
Steve
I've clicked on the like button 'cos I believe my FB friends will find this thread both funny and interesting

Yep, sorry Chris although it loads as an iframe it still registers on every page thats loaded and therefore triggers a report to our IT dept saying
you have tried to access a blocked page so it will lead to the site being blocked on our coporate servers very quickly. I know its doing this as its
showing a snippet of our page blocked logo!
So I will be logged off during the day now, and I expect a lot of other people will be the same.
Can we have a dislike button? a bit of balance.
The FB integration should at least be an option, if that were possible, imho.

Ignorant as I am, I hadn't even noticed the footer until this poll came out...
Leave it on! Anything that brings new people onto the site has got to be a good thing!

..........And there is already a LocostBuilders group page on FaceBook for those on this
site who are also 'FaceBook-ers' .....
well that's certainly a conclusive poll.
i don't understand why chris even entertains it though. are facebook paying for it to be there?

I am the "IT Police" here so know what it is going to do on our systems. Think of it as a one-step-away style block, so while LCB is "clean", it will be flagged as a bit "dirty" because it loads a page that is dirty - guilty by association.
Nothing against Facebook, but probably better to loose the link.
Tim.

But if, as is appears, it stops a bunch of current members using the site then surely that must be a bad thing.
I'm a massive FB user and think it's great... but I just can't see the benefit to LB in having this. If you are interested in kit cars and go on Google and search you will soon find this site!
Cheers,
James
If I had to wait until I got home to come on here instead of when I'm supposed to be working, I wouldn't have any time left to actually build my car
