Just ordered myself an Xbox 360 and kinect sensor for a Christmas present. I Have an NTL 10MB cable modem connected to the computer upstairs.

Am I right in thinking that all I need to connect the x box to X box Live is a wireless router connected between the upstairs modem and the computer.

The Xbox has a wireless connector built in.


If so which router should I get fro under £50

Yes and X-Box Live membership.

Have a look on ebay for the membership usually get it cheaper.

I think i have in the loft a wireless router from when i was with sky, seem to remember its a netgear one.

When i changed to virgin, it all got replaced. Is this any good to you ?? its probably 2 years old.

Anyone know if it will do the job ?? i presume they will connect to any set up ?

Let me know if its any use paul and i will dig it out, yours for the cost of postage if you want it.

If i feel better later i will dig it out to get a reference number.

That netgear one is not the right one for the job.

Sky use BT circuits and therefore this router plugs into the phone line.

Virgin use cable and have a modem as you say above.

What you need is a router that has an ethernet input rather than an adsl/phone line input.

I have a netgear one.

I believe it is a 108MBps with ethernet and 4 ports on the back + wireless. I do not have the box but comes with cable, power supply and cd. I am afraid i would have to ask for £30 posted but you can get on ebay cheaper than that.

I have a WGR614 4 port wireless router that I used when I had 10mb/20mb from NTL.

It was replaced when I upgraded to 50mb

The Xbox has something called 802.11n wifi

the router you have says something about ..802.11b networks..

What does thuis mean??????

HELP.........

It is 802.11b/g so your XBox should connect with a speed of 54mb.

A newer 802.11n router would allow 108mb or higher connection speeds but as you only have 10mb broadband this should be fine.
