Home PC dilema
steve m - 18/12/10 at 08:18 PM

My desktop (floor mounted ) has died, and to have it repaired is a new harddrive with XP etc etc,
and to be honest probably not worth the agro

We currently are using a laptop, but on the desk. and although not ideal, it works fine with a proper mouse next to it

So do i ditch the home PC with 19" screen and declutter the whole desk area
or get the home PC fixed

i am not sure which to go for, plus i was thinking along the lines of getting a wifi notebook for when we are away in the caravan

decisions, decisions !!!

Regards

Steve

You can always plug in the 19" monitor and a proper keyboard and mouse into your laptop (assuming it has a VGA or DVI connector).

I only use laptops now, seeing as all gaming is done on the xbox. It keeps the laptop running properly too.

Mouse, keyboard and monitor can be connected to most laptops. Docking stations are even better.

I think we are moving on

my screen works ok, but the keyboard conection is a different style of mini din plug

i will have a proper go tomorrow when the kids and grandkids are not here

Thanks guys,

Steve

we have laptops, so the house PC was left for gaming, but the laptops do that now so its hardly used.

We discussed recently selling it, and ditching the desk and chair.

steve m - 18/12/10 at 09:01 PM

Now i think i have entered a new begining, lose the desk, the chair, al the cr*p thats hanging around the desk

and then what to do with the "office room" ??

Yep its mine so a model room for all my R/c stuff and removed from the garage means more car space

To be fair a hard drive won't cost much if that's all it is

im late to the party as ever!

I recently did just what OP suggests, ditched desktop and desk, broadband, landline, and got a small laptop with a usb mobile modem. I got a wireless keyboard and mouse for about £16 from play.com, and with an hdmi cable it will plug into the big TV.

Now i can take it to work and on holiday, and its costing less per month than before.

Sadly my work desk is to be replaced by a dinner table, not boys toys, but i suppose i do have the whole garage to fill with junk!
