IPhone jailbrake woes
goodguydrew - 18/12/10 at 11:36 PM

Is anyone on here familiar with jailbraking and unlocking an iphone?
I need some advice please.
When updating my Facebook app on firmware 3.1.3 it locked up.
I'm now stuck trying to recover and re jailbrake.
Thanks.

if you hold the home and power button I think it starts up in a mode you can recover from.

when your phone locked up did you do a full reset? i.e hold down the power, and home button until it goes off, then release when the apple logo appears.. that normally sorts out any crashes/lockups.

What method did you use to jailbreak? ive done it quite a few times on different phones. The one ive had most success with is redsn0w.
1) update your phone with the original apple 3.1.3 firmware through Itunes
2) download the 3.1.2 firmware, and redsn0w 0.9.4
3) run redsn0w with your iphone plugged into the computer. Select the 3.1.2 ipsw
4) go through the options until your done, and let the software do its thing ;-)

Ive tried blackra1n, which was quick, and easy, but i had problems with cydia not working with this method.

If your phone just crashed though, you shouldnt need to re jailbreak

Apple are currently working on a software 'fix' to stop jailbreaking. So if you buy a jailbroken, one it may be a dear do, as it will stop working unless you go ligit.

Thanks for the replys.
I was attempting to use black rain. I will look at redsnow.
Later on I will see if the nice people at the 3 Store will provide an unlock code, as I have been a loyal customer for many years.
I'll let you know the outcome.

Every update apple try to stop people jailbreaking with that firmware, but the jailbreaking dev teams always manage to get around it.

There is no way that apple can do anything to you iphone to stop it being jailbroken as long as you dont update to a firmware that hasnt/cant be jailbroken.

If you bought a phone that is already jailbroken, apple cant stop it from working unless like above you install a newer firmware that cant be jailbroken.... but then you'd read up about that before choosing which update to chose
