Solidworks 2008 SP5
Alan B - 3/2/11 at 12:19 PM

Guys, I have a fully bought, licensed and paid for seat of SW 2008. I have a new PC on the way to me and the graphic card in it says I need SW2008 SP5 for it to run. I only have SP3 and when I try to get SP5 it tells me I need a subscription. All I want is my version to run on my new PC, I'm not trying to upgrade for nothing, just need what I have to run.

Any ideas?

Alan

leave it at SP3. The serivce packs are usually only updates to debug so chances are you will not see any difference.

Infact on their website they don't even list any Service Packs for 2008, they only list 2009 onwards. So chances are you won't be able to get them anyway.

Thanks for that.

Normally I don't bother too much with service packs unless I have a specific issue that it addresses. However, when I look at the Solidworks approved graphic card list, the ATI FirePro V4800 (the one I'm getting) the notes say it must have SP5 installed.
When I look on the ATI website it doesn't mention needing SP5.

I guess it's probably easier to wait and see.

Cheers,

Alan

i have a pretty basic laptop setup, basic gfx card and it can run SW 2010, i dont think you will have any problems at all. also where did you get the 2008 one from?

i dont understand how it works realy? i only have solidworks as i got it from my school, but i wantto buy it for when i leave. what i dont understand is, is it a one off pay? or do you pay for a year?

You have to buy it from a registered re-seller. You can buy a single license and thats it, or you can also buy a subscription and with that you get updates every year and also full tech support.
But be warned, its very expensive. And if you want add-ons they are all cost options.
