I made the fatal error of agreeing to re-build my neighbours crappy old Compaq pc for him and upgrade the HDD.
He also wants me to upgrade the graphics card- unfortunately I can't seem to disable to onboard card so I can put a PCI one in.
With the Dells I'm used to you just chuck the card in and it works. How do you disable it in this Compaq?
It's a Deskpro 2000 5166. Has a Pentium 166 processor!
James
everytime i have done it you have to go into the bios and disable it that way
when you start the pc press and hold delete or F8
i hope this woorks
I checked the bios earlier and the only video option it seems to give is to turn off VGA pallette snooping!
...whatever the hell that is!

sorry james we have reached the limit of my knowledge time for someone of greater intelect to step in and save the day
James,
there might be a jumper on the motherboard which will disable the graphics card
Tony
good thinking batman that is exactly what will do it!!
i bet you don't have the manulal james do you, if you are luck it might say agp next to the jumper
Well, I gave up in the end- couldn't get the soddin card disabled.
I 'aquired' an old Dell (ie. a decent machine not that Compaq crap! ) and have built that and will give it to the guy tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
James
