I'm finally in the 20 th century with BB .... but the phone line wire is coming out of the bottom of the square BT wall point; the box has 1 socket into with I plug the ASDL filter.

The keener eyed reader will have spotted that the phone line is before the filter so phone has lots of hisses, crackles and pops.

I would like to replace the square box with one that has ASDL filter with socket for BB plus 2 or 3 BT phone sockets.

Does such a thing exist and what is it called?


Also is it possible to buy a BT socket that has screw terminals? I have a 50 bakelite phone that has thick wire coils as the terminals so the press fit socket will not work, again what is the thing called?

Sounds correctly wired to me --- you need to use filters

You don't muck about with the Master Socket wiring it is BT 's responsibility If it has the OpenReach logo cast into the removable part it has what is known as an I plate built in which was an improvement introduced to improve broad band speeds.

If you really what you can do it is fit a filtered face see ADSLnation Filtered face plat

Telephone extensions are normally wired unfiltered so you have the option of locating the router away from the mastersocket -- with WifI and Networking over mains fewer people do this.

If you you really want no to use filters on the extension then AdslNation can supply filtered extension boxes of course most people don't use extension anymore and just use Dect cordless phones.

thx for response but the phone is wired to the face plate - as per extension you describe. Either I need to unplug the line from the existing faceplete and fit a plug on, in whcih case I can use the existing filter, else I fit the filter between the phone itself and the cable, whcih isn't easy due to the type of connector (I think ..... goes downstairs to check ..... )

Would I get BT to change the faceplate and rewire the phone line socket? ..... and no doubt they will charge for that?

Really best to fit a socket on the extension and change the lead on the phone to suit.

.... yep , now that I think about it, there is coil of wire and socket box tucked behind the fridge into which the phone leads goes ..... pretty sure that is the case as I get to see behind the fridge ever 7 years or so.

I take it I can replace the socket box as that is no longer BTs domain.
