Router probs (Suspected)
Dick Axtell - 2/8/11 at 04:12 PM

Calling all Techies, Computer whizzes, and similar experts.

Dear Daughter cannot get her Sky 'net connection. Checked with my laptop, still no go (so it ain't her PC at fault). Noticed that the little indicator light on the NetGear router didn't illuminate at all, although the "1" light did. Suspect that the router will have to be re-configured.

My suggestion was to call Sky for them to fix it. She said she had already spent 2 hrs on the phone re this prob; they checked the router, and reckoned it was OK. If that's true, then the ASDL signal isn't getting to the computer.

If I have to re-config the router, any advice on method would be most welcome.

The '1' light is just to show that the Ethernet cable is plugged in to port number one at the back of the router.

Are there no other lights on?

If the internet is connected there should be an 'i' with a circle type thing under it lit up.

Cheers

Mark

The Sky white Netgear routers have Sky customised firmware and are notoriously fickle, also Sky are very reluctant to give out the ADSL log on username & password making it difficult to try another router. You will find info on how to get the user name and password here link

However you can easily log on to the router admin control page ( at http://192.168.0.1 ) using username admin and password sky this will let you view the rouuters adsl and lan status but only offers a very limmited number of options for changing anything.

I have a client in EK with exactly the same problem going to look at it tomorrow ---- looks like a line fault to me but might be a router prpblem I will probably have to try to talk Sky into giving her a new router to elininate the router.

Thanks very much, british trident.

The first link looks useful; 2nd seems to be very slow to connect - if at all. Still checking for other faults.
