Anyone use binary NNTP?
ChrisW - 4/8/11 at 10:29 AM

As subject, anyone using binary NNTP and paying for an account with giganews/newzbin/etc? A few of us are thinking of chipping in and running a proxy but there's always more cost saving to be had with numbers. Anyone interested?

Cheers, Chris

I'm interested, currently using giganews with ssl. Would you be running ssl or site to site vpn? Or just boggo standard connections?

Do you really need VPN if you're using a proxy? Not sure about SSL, but I guess it's possible. I don't bother with it on my giganews so I've never really investigated it.

I use SSL to encrypt my traffic from the server to my desktop. VPN is another way of masking what data is being downloaded. It keeps ISP's from spying on what you're doing

depends how secure you want it. for most tls is enough

I'm aware of what it does, just I don't use it so I'm not sure how it works in terms of NNTP. I'm sure I can make it work though!
