Satellite broadband should work anywhere, but costs more than wired

A simple trick that might help with the T Mobile drop out problem is stick it on the end of a long USB extension cable and mount on the outside of the house facing the T mobile transmitter mast.
Together with the above you could try sitting the dongle in a corner reflector ---- a corner reflector is simply a bit of metal sheet folded into a right angle facing the transmitter.

We used to have the same problem down at our old unit, stuck the dongle in a extension, chucked it out the window and all was good, worth a shot.

We have been supplied with an amplified usb cable and mounted it on a pole outside - it has boosted the signal somewhat, however it is still dropping out frequently. Will the metal screen help this drop out - would an old satellite dish help? Other option offered is a 3.6 g Yagi mounted on a pole. Any thoughts welcome. Get frequently close to throwing computer out the window! One strange phenonema is that using locostbuilder increases the signal!!!

A Yagi will definately increase signal as its highly directional with probably a 8Db gain or more over an omni, youve only to compare an omni tv antenna to a roof mounted one. But how you'd connect it to a usb dongle is beyond me, no doubt someone sells a modem that would suit one.
Cheers,
Bob

You will be surprised how well a proper 3G aerial and router will work...

Try searching for the billion BiPac 7800gz, thats the type of router that you can add the yagi aerial to to give the best reception.

There are a few additional features on routers that take the 3G cards directly, these normally give a more reliable service.
