I printer off an invoice about 2 hours ago. No problem. Then went to print off a document and now my HP 1018 wont print
Comes up with Local print spooler service is not running?? What is one of them??
Ok so far I have removed the device and then re-istalled it. Still have the same issue/fault..
Could this simply be my printer has given up?? It is old but was working fine.. Any advise would be much appreciated before I pop down to curry's
to buy a new laser printer.. Need one for tomorrow.
Even HP printers have a finite life with the lasers it is not unkown for the paper feed gears to wear out of spec and they won't initialise,
with the later HP printers they flash up on the LCD "Printer End of Life" and refuse to do anything.
Generally always recommend commercial customers keep a spare cheap £35 HP inkjet sitting in a cupboard as a ready setup spare.
So my good OLD hp1018 may have passed away!!! I nearly purchased a new printer last week cause I could do with one at work.. Looks like I may need to buy 2 then... Bummer.. I wonder if Curry's will do a discount, buy one get one free may-be, I wish
The printer is probably fine. I presume that you are running Windows and if so, there are many instances of the print spooler service in Windows stopping. Google for it and you'll find a variety of causes and solutions.
There's a known issue with some older HP's and PDF's (I presume your invoice was one?)
Print spool is a location that all files to be printed are held and given to the orinter in dribs and drabs as it asks for it. In reality it's
just a folder on your computer.
Try typing "services.msc" without the quotes in the search/run bar
Hit enter.
Find "Print Spooler" in the list. Right click - Restart.
If it does restart try printing again.
If it doesn'y restart....You might need to manually clear the document queue.
Stop the print spool (right click and stop)
C:WindowsSystem32SpoolPrinters.
Delete the files within that folder. These are the files waiting to print and it may be these causing the print spooler to crash.
By the by...You may have more joy deleting the printer and using the 1020 driver. It's newer and doesn't have this issue with
PDF's...
Give me a shout if you want further help. There's nothing wrong with your computer or the printer so don't give up! It's just the cheap
HP driver/software at fault.
as it happens it was a PDF file from Mclaren that I oened and hit the print button, even since then I get that message.. I will try what you said mate after Ive done my hard days work at my unit
if it is a PDF that you tries to print it may have crashed the print spooler. make sure you have an upto date copy of Adobe as I have know that to
cause problem if pdf issuer has removed backward compatability to reduce the file size.

ALL SORTED NOW!!!
Well I went down to buy a new printer (needed one for my works pc) and plugged it into my home PC and things worked as they should!!! Therefore I
presume my old HP1018 was playing up.. Still find it hard to believe that it just packed up.
I will (before I bin-it) try my 1018 on the pc at work just to make sure it's dead before I buy another printer..
Thanks for all the advise guys.
