Can any of you clever computer savvy folk tell me if it's possible to use photos from my iPad and import them into posts?
I have tried but not really got any further

Create an account with Photobucket, upload them to that via an App and then you will need to insert them into the site via the control panel I believe.

Yep, as above. It's not possible to load them onto the site directly through iPhone/iPad.

Photobucket, open image, press I (info button) 4 choices use bottom img option, copy, paste into post
