evening all,
can anyone recommend me a gigabit switch for a home network please?
I like HP networking stuff - good compromise between price and quality
something like this for home use - misco linky

Second hand Cisco , just got a 24 port 29 series gig switch of eBay for £45 delivered , just do a search for Cisco catalyst gigabit
Hth
i don't think i will need more than 8 ports, but just looking at price range, why are some £20 and some are £100 when they do the same job, or do
they.
i was looking at this one
TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch | eBay
the differences are quality, processing speed and capacity. Switches actually do some processing on the data packets to work out where to send them.
They store the packets then forward them to their destination. They have different backplane capacities so if there are more than one user using it at
the same time, it could slow down.
For an extra tenner the HP is likely to perform better and be more reliable. The Cisco as mentioned above will perform way better but will be large
and likely to be noisy with the cooling fans.
