Graphics card upgrade?
coozer - 6/10/12 at 06:14 PM

I have recently gone over to Windows 7 and now I see a lacking from my graphics card..

Win 7 doesnt run all of the drivers and the only bit gaming I do has gone right down in the resolution stakes and I keep getting shot to bits before I see the hun approaching.. nothing spectacular, just a bit of Day of Defeat on the steam servers.

Can anyone suggest a good graphics card that will give me decent gaming performance on DOD?

Dont want to shell out to much, just a decent up to date card that I can a decent resolution on??

What card have you got at the minute? It's going to depend on what motherboard you have and how much you want to spend. They seem to get obsolete very quickly. I have a gtx 560ti which cost a fortune a little while ago but you can pick them up for under £100 now. I've never played DOD (more into combat flight sims) but it doesn't look like it would need a masivly powerful gpu.

Its a Medion (Aldi) pc, running a dual core Intel chip @ 2.13ghz. Motherboard is a MicroStar MS-7318.
Graphics card is a non descript Medion marked thing, theres a video capture TV card under it and a freesat tuner, that I have never have used, and dont see me ever using, so they both can go.

Heres a pic..

Been looking at a AMD Radeon HD6670, seems good value at £50..

I recently put a Asus GeForce GTX 560 810MHz 1GB PCI-Express HDMI DirectCU in a rig. 131 notes but works very nicely. Get Crysis 2 maxed out on ultra with dx11 (haven't tried the high-res pack yet). As said you can get them now for under 100 pounds. Very nice!

Firstly run the windows 7 system rating and see what else may be the issue too.

A graphics update may not make it any better due to ram or board speed issues.

Also there is that slim chance to the board dies when you change the card etc. (few pcs a year I work on will die when upgraded even with static straps etc.....)

I would look on 3d mark for what others have done with your motherboard and see what looks best....
