I recently updated Adobe Reader to XI but as soon as I'd done this I couldn't get any PDF links on websites to work although I could still open PDF's stored on my PC.

There does seem to be some discussion about this on carious Forums but I couldn't overcome it so deleted Adobe and re-installed version 9 which works fine.

Now I keep getting reminders from Adobe to update to the current version which really I would like to do.

Any suggestions how to overcome this?

I know a little about computers but probably need an "Idiots Guide".

There will be an option somewhere in Adobe Reader to disable the 'check for updates' I think it will be under 'Edit, Preferences, Updater'. You can then deselect automatic update checker.

(I'm not 100% sure because I run Adobe Acrobat X-Pro and it's different)

Unless there is a specific reason to stay up to date, I'd recommend you stay with an earlier version of the reader. I think I'm still on 7 or 8 on my home laptop, and I've yet to find a PDF that doesn't open or is corrupted in some way. As the version has increased, the reader has just got bigger and bigger, but there seems to be no benefit.

I would just turn off the 'check for updates' option and stay happy with a working version of the reader.

Take it off and put Foxit or Nitro reader on.

I'd be a bit careful not updating Reader considering that malicious PDFs have been used as a source of malware.
