What is a good tracking app for iPad?
Mr Whippy - 19/6/13 at 11:06 AM

Hi

I'm going on a trip, some of it in a kayak and would like to record the route and some details like speeds, hights etc

I have an iPad 2 with 3G which I was going to put in a water proof bag and then in one of the boats waterproof compartments

Can any who has used this recommend me an app?

Thanks

Runkeeper. I use it for cycling, but it will do the job you want.
Beware: it's very battery thirsty.

Will have a look at that thanks, battery's on the pad seem to last a very long time so long as the screen brightness is turned down a bit or its running in the background

I use the 'viewranger' app with the OS maps for planning walks, and as a backup to paper maps on my phone as a satnav - you do have to buy the maps, but the 1:50k maps are relatively good value (all uk national parks at 1:50K for £20, or free i think if you buy the premium version of viewranger app, Or the whole of the uk at 1:50 k for £90, and a host of 'region' options). They are stored on you ipad, so not using data/relying on a data connection to show a map if thats important to you.
I actually have the viewranger app on my nokia phone (with GPS) and ipad, and once you have purchaced the maps you can load to multiple devices, but check the website.

If your battery is at risk of going flat you can by Li back up batteries that you charge seperatly and then plug in and help extend the battery life. My brother uses one for his Ipear 5 mobile telebone and is a nice piece of kit.

Get a solar charger as well as run keeper. I use it on me bike n my battery stays at 99-100 percent

Try MotionX GPS HD, it should fit the bill.
