Temporary Internet Connection
Minicooper - 10/1/14 at 10:59 PM

I have a problem with my land line making internet access very slow. I also can't send e mails, is there any temporary solution I can use until my land line is fixed, I'm thinking of the usb sticks that are used for mobile access. I don't want to be paying monthly charges, as it shouldn't be too much longer before it's fixed

Any ideas?

Cheers
David

When we had a similar problem (it took TalkTalk and Openreach 3-1/2 weeks to agree there was a problem and sort it), I bought a dongle and a month's unlimited access, which cost about £15 (an offer from Orange/T-Mobile at the time).

If you have a smart phone you can set it to act as an access point

Go buy a mifi device or similar - not sure where you are, but last time I looked the pay as you go EE 4G ones were about fifty quid with 3GB of data included...

If you are going down the 3G route as a temp solution check which service provider has the best signal in your area. If you only get 2G etc reception you maybe jumping from the fire into the pan. I do agree this is the best solution either via a dongle or smart phone.

As above easiest way if you already have internet access on a mobile phone just watch usage and what tariff/allowance you have

do any of your neighbours use BT internet? - if so they may have a bt wifi network that you can access

otherwise take a laptop to starbucks/ macdonalds or many pubs etc and use wifi there

Thanks for the help everyone, I don't have a smart phone so I think the dongle is the way forward for me
