How can a company as rubbish as BT still be in operation ?.
tried to get into my e mail this morning,it is always having problems with logging out and changing setings on it,s own etc,now i am confronted with the "new and improved" system that i have to log into not once but twice and invent a new passwrod for then the bit i really need,ie the mails has shrunk like a cheap T shirt.
the only way out as i see it is to kidnap a spotty yoof and get him to change my provider as i know that if i do it it will all end in tears and the world will end in a pile of smoking rubble
.

and breath.

"How can a company as rubbish as BT still be in operation ?"

Because you are still their customer despite the complaints.

And the daft bit is that Plusnet are 100% owned by BT, and frequently top the table for good customer service. Go figure...

BT email is in a mess they still don't seem to have their own email servers properly working since they stop using Yahoo's mail servers almost a year ago.

Switching broadband providers is dead easy, if you haven't got fibre already it would be a good opportunity.
Plusnet mail set up is very good with decent virus and spam filtering.

An alternative is buy your own domain name --- something like yourname.me.uk or yourname.org.uk and get the hosting company to provide your mail boxes. This costs very little money from companies like LCN it had the big advantage that your email address doesn't change if you switch providers. You will also get decent email filtering which you can control.

Best thing you can do is to get an email address hosted by anyone over than your isp that way you can up sticks and change provider without losing your email address you have had for years.

Never had a problem with them, they phone me to reduce my bills while providing (to date) a perfect service.

I guess that's how.

and as for service, when they installed the router, first man told them he couldnt do the job as he needed a cherry picker to get up the pole, line was already installed and is underground...how lazy is that ?

A long-winded story (see tl/dr for a summary)

Many years ago, when I was 17, I joined BT (it was PO Telephones then). As an apprentice I was sent out to work with the outside gangs to get experience - with linesmen, overhead gangs, underground gangs, etc. The linesmen were usually the first on the scene within a day when a fault was reported: they would try to fix the problem as far as they could, until they proved it was an underground problem. They stayed on that job until they were certain that another team was required. When the underground team turned up (usually the next day) they stayed on that job until it was fixed: they dug the holes, opened the joints, sorted out the cable and tidied up when they'd finished. They didn't leave until the customer had a working phone.

Now wind forward about 30 years, when I was a customer, not an employee: phone stopped working, so I reported a fault. After about 2 days a linesman turned up, and identified a problem under the pavement across the road - he marked the problem area with a blue spray. Nothing had happened after two or three more days, so I rang in again: apparently the contractors who dig the hole had turned up and couldn't find the problem area (even though it was clearly marked with bright blue paint). After another week they still hadn't turned up so I rang OFCOM as we been 3 weeks without service (and without any contact from BT). They gave me a local number in Ipswich, I spoke to a real BT engineering supervisor and explained the situation, and a gang turned up the next day to fix the problem. This cost BT a £75 refund to me for loss of service.

tl/dr: BT used to care about the service they gave to customers, now they couldn't give a monkeys until pushed and threatened with official action. Although I was an employee for 24 years, I don't feel like I owe them any loyalty.

i very breifly worked for them repairing the trucks, they were a shower there as well....oh well

Wheels244 - 10/9/14 at 10:16 PM

My parting words to BT when I left 3 years ago to go to Plusnet, when the contract manager asked me if there was anything they could do to keep me as a customer....

"I wouldn't stay with you if you was giving broadband and a phone line away free"

I stand by those words.

I have infinity from bt which includes the football - it's the dogs danglies!

If you want some help to setup your own domain and get is hosted, I've been using a company called hihosting which is £15 a year for their starter package for web hosting and email and it's been fine. It's not man enough to run a magento ecommerce shop, but if you just want email it's a dream at that price.
Happy to lend a hand - I'm not connected to this company, just think their package was cheap and reliable for what it is - also they'll give you a free domain.

I've just looked and theconrodkid.co.uk is available

our BT broadband is rubbish and a nightmare when playing GTA, keeps losing connection mid battle

mcerd1 - 11/9/14 at 07:36 AM

BT can't even maintain the connection to our work or the other businesses round here (industrial estate with 20 - 30 companies)
we have been recurring line faults for the last 7 years - yet every time it takes days to persuade them to send anyone even just to check it

it drops out for 15 - 30 min at least every other day, and yesterday it was down for 6 hours +
but on several occasions its been down for 5 days or more

went on to check the fault status yesterday and they still had the last major fault listed as 'Open' from the month before - does that mean they never bothered to fix it last time ?

Do you know what I really like about Plusnet - you get to speak to somebody in England and even better than that - Yorkshire !!
Only had 2 faults in 3 years - both attributable to BT lines - both resolved straight away.

BT may own Plusnet - but the certainly don't run it !

mcerd1 - 12/9/14 at 07:53 AM

the latest on our BT issue

"gave BT the go ahead this morning to switch our working broadband connection off to fix a problem. The Engineer assured us that it would be back up and running within an hour.

The Engineer has left us and gone onto another job without the problem being resolved.

We have complained bitterly to BT but they cannot get the Engineer to return to resolve the problem today and they have booked an appointment for tomorrow morning"

still waiting.....
