Win 7 : 32 or 64 bit

What benefit is there with win 7 64 bit over 32 bit?

Laptop is > 5 yr old dell, maxed out with 4 gb ram, 250 gb HD. (No plans to change that)

Will existing programs installed when it had vista run on win 7 64 bit? (Hopefully theyll run on win 7 32 bit)

Do you know if your hardware is 64 bit compatible?
What model laptop is it?

Assuming you have a 64 bit processor it'll handle multiple applications a bit faster, other than that you'll be able to use the full 4gb of RAM, rather than 3.5gb.

You probably won't notice much difference unless you intend to run 64 bit applications.

Wow, that was quick.

Dell e6400. IntelkT9400 @2.54 ghz

Think it can as i have same model but with intel P8400 (and another with T9550)

Now im wondering whether the t and p prefix is bit related

Intel web site shows all ad 64 bit instruction set.?
