Firefox misbehaving?
David Jenkins - 9/8/15 at 09:11 AM

Just lately I've noticed that Firefox is messing around - it hangs on certain websites (no, not that sort of site!), or doesn't show the complete page for ages. The BBC News website and YouTube are two examples where I often have difficulty. These websites/pages work perfectly in Chrome, but unfortunately I'm not a 100% fan of that browser.

I have a few add-ons and extensions in Firefox, but it behaves much the same when I remove them all.

Is anyone else having problems with Firefox?

On all Browsers BBC News website often hangs when they are updating articles, same goes for BBC Red Button services on the TV which always seem to hang at the hour and half hour mark.

YouTube seems to work best on Google's own Chrome browser.

You could re-install an earlier version of Firefox I have had to this in the past but if you want to retain your bookmarks and addons without having to resort to manual copying don't go back a whole version number. The free Mozbackup program will save addons, passwords and bookmarks but won't work between different main number versions.

I find bbc and youtube sites quite slow generally what ever OS and browser you use. Both sites harvest a lot of user data so maybe thats why.
They are particularly slow when there's a lot of internet use in my street. Today is fine as most peeps are outside enjoying the weather.
I'm not currently having any issues with either of those sites at the mo
(I'm using linux mint 17.1 on dell D630 with cinnamon front end and mozilla 39.0.3 with adblock plus plug in.)

chillis - I'm on a very similar setup.

I don't think it's the sites running slow... Firefox hangs on a website, so I close it and go immediately to Chrome on the same website - and it runs perfectly, and reasonably fast.

Same here Firefox used to be fantastic and was the only browser I ever used, then it all went wrong, extremely slow loading any website but especially the more complex websites. Gave up in the end and went back to Internet Explorer

Never did find out what had changed
