Malicious Emails
I love speed :-P - 26/7/05 at 10:02 AM

Somebody keeps sending me malicious emails and msn messages from a hotmail.co.uk address. They know a lot of info, so it can only be one of a few people. Anyway is there a way to track/find out who they are i.e. I.P. address etc

Thanks very much

Phil

Set it to show all headers, get the ip address it was sent from. Do a WHOIS search on whois.net or similar, get the provider. Email the provider and state the time it was sent, and the IP address, and they can tell you who was given that ip at that time.

ditto adam, get the headers (does forward including headers do this too? my headers come up automatically) then either do the leg work yourself or copy and paste them on here and im sure someone will be happy to play detective!

remember its a criminal offense to send a malicious communication, even if there are no threats or anything else illegal. If it bugs you too much just call the police - what else do we pay council tax?!

I've done it twice. Once it turned out to be a mate of mine, and the other time it was from an address in NZ, I guess it went through a proxy.
