--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here is the story....are we all sitting comfortably?

We have two computers, one upstairs, one down. These both used to be connected to the internet via a belkin wireless router setup on NTL with a set top box. Then we cancelled NTL to go over to sky and got homecall broadband.

The modem that homecall sent me only had a USB output (the belkin router only has eithernet inputs) enter D-link ASDL modem. Now I've set this up so when I connect it to the computer directly I can access the internet. Now I've connected it to the router to set up the router and I can't connect. If it means anything I have 3 steady green leds in a clump on the router, then a big gap before another steady green led and bneath that an orange led that blicks occasionally.

Any ideas people? I'm totally at my wit's end.

What model of D Link ADSL modem do you have is it a DSL300G ? my guess is by setting the ip addresses, gateway and proxy settings manually you will get round it I have encountered problems with Belkin wireless routers before and think it can be fixed but I suspect it would be a lot easier just to get a cheap ADSL Modem-wireless Router.

its a dsl-300t modem........

If I took it back (I only bought it on the advice of the guy in the shop) and got a new wireless router modem combined....won't that mean I'd also have to get a new network card for the other computer as well?

A networkcard either wireless or wired is the normal way of connecting to a router although on some can connect one PC via the USB port but most PC motherboards built in the last 4 or 5 years already have an RJ45 network connector on the motherboard. You can also get wired network cards the plug into the USB port --- I am using one on this PC
