I'm looking for some decent software to record for security but all I can find on 'tinternet is crap (but then again I've never been good at googling)

I'd like to be able to record 24/7 (maybe recording 1 hour at a time, 24 files a day)

Also be able to take snapshots when there is movement.

Not too bothered about being emailed when it spots something but that would be nice too

CoffeCup software do a nice windows app that works pretty well with most type of cam.

There is also a Zonemiinder dedicated to running security cam on Linux.

However most USB webcams don't really work well as security cams - however the best way to setup a cheap but effective security cam is an IP Cam that connects directly to the network or router. Each IP cam has it own network IP address and can be wired or wireless. They come complete with software.

Just go on to ebay and do a search for IP Cam.

This seems to have got a very good review - loaded with features too... it's also available on the underground

Ok I'm not sure how much help this is going to be....but...

I know that a while ago there was a really good program (can't remember what it's called) that would start recording when it picks up movement from the webcam... then you can set it to stop recording a specified time after the movement stops.

Really sorry I can't remember what it was called but it was packaged free with logitec webcams about 3 years ago.

OK, I've just installed my other PC with good old stable Windows 2000.

I'm going to try a couple of those suggestions and I'll let you know the outcome if it all goes well

Hi Chaps - I've now been testing a version of security software and found it to be a decent bit of software. It has an option of leaving it running unnoticed (monitor), not using valuable memory as it takes a snapshot of the scene and updates by comparison to the original. When it detects a movement it records. You can even live-link it to the web - you can access that webspace remotely and view in a little window in the corner of your screen all in real- time! It's a lovely bit of kit seing as it was little money... it even works with my PS2 'Eye Toy'/webcam... all done for the princely sum of - guess?

FTM - it also does multi-monitors and unlimited permutations of pre-set times hourly, weekly, monthly etc etc...
