Anyone transferred their old Vinyl LP's to pooter?

How have you connected the turntable? will it connect straight to the sound card or does it have to go through the Hi fi amp first?

I may have them on MP3 already as I have about 40000 tracks

You want to use the Software that comes from Adaptec, there is a utility, that records the music, removes clicks and scratch noise. It cuts them down into tracks, (listens for the silence gaps) then you can blow it to CD.

I used a Levelling Amp cost me about £15. as the magnetic cartridge output is not enough to drive the sound card input, and you get a crappy transfer.
I think you can get them from maplin. Basically its a small pre-amplifier.

Quicker and Easier to get them off the net or other people already in mp3 format.

If you have the originals, then there shouldnt be any copywright issues.

You can record them into Cakewalk, or Soundforge from you hi fi output and then edit /eq them or there is some software called Audio Cleaning by Magix , the latest version has a software turntable preamp so you can just plug your deck into the pc , Audio Cleaning also has editing and cleaning/crackle removing functions, supposed to be good......


I've removed crackles manually in Soundforge takes ages........

easy cd creater 5 is what you need, failing that i have 100ish gig of mps i'm sure theres something that you wanted.

i also have easy cd5 on pc i'm sure i could loose a copy of it for you

I connected my turntable to the pc via a small mixer (you need some sort of pre-amp to boost the signal unless you have the right software with this feature already) then once the files were on the pc I used a wave editor (Sonic Foundry Soundforge) to put in the gaps between tracks. It has a vynil restoration facility which is a general clean up of scratch noise but it tends to kill the dynamics. The best way is to remove each pop and scratch at a time which you can do with Soundforge. It takes time but it's worth it if you have rare stuff on vynil. I can send you a copy of Soundforge if you like or if you let me know which tunes you want I could send you the mp3s. I'm sure between all of us we would have the tracks you want.

I used Audio Cleaning lab by Magix.
record player contected to amp Amp to computer.

I used an amp from maplins and easy media creator 7.5 (from WHSmith @ £35.99) which is also an excellant piece of video editing software.

With the software in Easy Media Creator, rathe r than remove the section with a click, it can be toned down, to blend in with the music.

Connected mine to the cassette output of the amplifier, and then used wavelab lite to record the album - record the whole side and then break it down into tracks by looking at the sound graphic. I tried to copy Dark Side of the Moon, only to realise that the tracks overlap so it is almost impossible to sort this way. I borrowed a CD and copied that instead!
