I've been messing about learning stuff about networks and have done a silly thing - deleted the "file and printer sharing for microsoft networks" protocol off my xp professional system, and now i can't get it back...

Anyone know how to do it?

PS On a related note, does anyone know of a good forum for PC problems? I could have a few coming up because I like to learn by messing about with stuff, usually resulting in a few casualties!

If this a home machine dump it (file and printer sharing that is). Unless you are running a network behind a hardware firewall that is. See attached doc and tighten the security on your XP machine. Stop using internet explorer and outlook in favour of Firefox / thunderbird, install a good virus scanner, use a bit of common sense and you can avoid the bulk of the c**p the internet trys to throw at you.

You only actually need tcp/ip to use the internet. My machine has been like this, plus the various services previously mentioned have been disabled. AVG installed, use Firefox and thunderbird. I also have a software firewall (tiny, now kerio) as well as the hardware firewall. I've not had a single problem with viruses, spyware or being hacked for the last two years.

ps - never click yes to that "do you want to run and install the following............ ?"
