Our internet is completely down at home at the moment (and has been for around a week now).

If anyone knows how to cure the problem below I would be most grateful.

The fault is the router cant find the PPP server, and hence we cant access any web pages as it wont let us log into our account. The ADSL line is fine, and all the tests on it work ok.

Rung the ISP and they said there is nothing wrong with our account, and it shows us as connected (which we are not!). And yes the house phone works fine.

We have reset the router, both hardware and software. Tried pinging IP addresses (all of which fail) etc etc.

It sounds like an ISP problem to me, but they say its all OK.

Sorry mate, have to say it does sound like a network problem to me with your network connecting to your router, not the ISP.

Is it wireless or hard wired to your router?

We are all wired to the router, and we could all see each others computers and access them etc. Just the PPP server couldnt be found...

Odd, but it appears to be fixed now...hopefully!

Oh well, all's well that ends well, glad it's fixed.

I have a similar problem with my wireless home network. Desktop can see the laptop but ICS won't work... I've tried alsorts with little luck.

Anyone help on this one?

what kind of wireless set up do you have?

Access Point infrastucture, Ad hoc?

I get file sharing but no ICS... I had a feeling it's firewall as Kerio (free version) does not support ICS. Even with FW disabled it doesn't ICS

Kerio is quite hardcore with what is accepts/denies so that may be it. What OS are you running on the machines?

XP Pro SP1

They're not supporting Kerio anymore or so I was told. Anyone else know a good free firewall?

Sounds like a stupid question but is your ICS turned on on your wireless router? Can you connect with a cable and check it works, then you know whether its your wireless network or your ICS.

We all started off on a wireless set up, but it was such a pain and so slow that we are now all on wired connections.

And you have got the TCP/IP enabled in your wireless connection settings right? (Right click network connection in control panel and select prperties...)

Hi flak - I have no router just a wireless adapter and PC Lan card. I had it working with my old laptop but it simply won't Internet Share I have ICS turned on yes.

I have my TCP settings configured as ports 192.168.0.1 and slave as 192.168.0.2 and I've also tried auto to no avail. I'm not having any luck whatsoever... personally I was going to go the wired route initially and it looks like I'm going to end up doing that.

Have you tried the telephone socket sharing thing I've vaguely heard about?

My TCP/IP settings are:

IP Address 192.168.1.5
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

I think usually that over a network the gateway is set as 192.168.1.1, not 192.168.0.1 though I could be wrong.

Your DNS server should be whatever your net company told you, or just leave that on auto.

If you go to start, run, type 'cmd'. Then type 'ipconfig', what do you get?

Also if you type 'ping 192.168.0.1' what do you get?

Any reason that you haven't installed sp2 and use use it's built in security centre, firewall, it obviously supports sharing and isn't all that bad.
