tried to print my flight tickets,printe made all the right noises but shot no ink onto the paper,checked leads etc,still no joy,un-installed printer and tried to re-install again,now it says something about wont suport ms dos????

You're in luck, I'm a bit of an expert when it comes to printers. I've taken loads of printers apart in work and the final conclusion is always the same, it's fuct.

The ink nozzles are just blocked. Try using the printer utilities to clean the heads. It might take several attempts to clear the heads, but it should work in the end.

Other than that I doubt there is anything wrong with it.

i doubt the wisdom of refilling cartridges. Ive done it once, and as happened for you, it dried up in a few weeks, probably due to a lack of use. It should last longer IMHO. Hasnt worked since

my HP 720 works quite well with the Tesco refills.... at least the black ones. The colour fills are now way near as good - inaccurate colour.

tis indeed the jets blocked,washed it out under the tap,prints 1 sheet then dies again,new cartrage is more than i paid for the printer,thats why i got tesco special

The cartridges that come with a new printer are only about 1/3 full. Get some full ones from somewhere and use the printer at least once a week to keep it working. Lexmark are the worst for this from what I've seen.

You can try sitting the printer head-nozzels on a shet of folded wet kitchen towel in a saucer. Soak it for a few hours, then do a head clean.
This is where refilling can stop paying for itself

with the refill kit you get a drill,i think some debris from drilling has found its way into the can,thats whats fooked it

We always have Epson printers. Got an R200 at the moment, cost me a grand total of £63 brand new (student discount ). Prints on CD's and the photo quality is great. Takes 6 ink carts which are £50 for the set, so not too bad (you can get compatables for about £1 each though).

Lexmark printers are the worst for ink cartridge costs. Epson have always worked out the cheapest as far as I know.

ive got a epson RX 3200 multi function machine... epson inks cost over £40 for both ....
i fill mine up from tesco bottles and use a chip resetter..much cheaper

got a new cartrige for mine,£13,printer cost me £15 a couple of years ago,rip off but there you go

I've had many Lexmark printers in the past, due to low purchase price, but have regretted it when it came to refill time.
I now use a Canon printer and have nothing but praise for it.
I research the costs of replacement cartridges before buying and the Canons worked out as the cheepest overall.
Another added bonus is that you don't waste a cartridge when one colour runs out as the colours are all separate. Just replace or refill the empty cartridge!

Some Cannons have really major problems with the ink drying up in the jets other older Cannons get clogged up ink filters especially if used with recyled paper. Cannon Lasers are fine.

Epson make great dot-matrix but the ink jets are slow and sometimes suffer the same nozzle problems as the Cannons. The paper feed mech tends to be more prone to jams than HP or Cannon.

Lexmark are very reliable but the soho products tend to be s-l-o-w.

HP are simply the best great printers --- never any problem until they finally just wear out. Although I have seen a couple of Office Jets G55 that the USB interface died on -- but they still worked on the centronics interface.

Brother -- great lasers for the money.

The error message suggests you are using a windows xp or 2000 driver on windows me or earlier, with the change from the fat32 file system to ntfs, DOS was dropped. Try checking the website for an older driver, if it turns out not ot be a physical problem.
